The Crown Prince has had an all-round education. After attending Krebs School in Copenhagen from 1974, supplemented with school attendance in France 1982-1983, he matriculated in modern languages from Øregaard Gymnasium in 1986. Immediately afterwards he began comprehensive military training, ending with a special course with the Navy Diving Corps. In connection with his 18th birthday, he joined the Queen in Council. In 1989-1995 the Crown Prince completed the full political science course at Aarhus University, finishing with graduation and supplemented with studies abroad. From 1998 to 1999 he served as Secretary at the Danish embassy in Paris and in the autumn of 2000 he finished an education in the Air Force.

Joachim Holger Waldemar Christian, b. 7.6.1969, Prince of Denmark, younger son of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik. Prince Joachim matriculated in modern languages from Øregaard Gymnasium in 1986 at the same time as his elder brother, the Crown Prince, and until then received the same education. In 1978 Schackenborg manor in Møgeltønder was given to him and his further education was therefore directed towards estate management, apart from his military service 1987-1990. On 18 November 1995 he married Alexandra Christina Manley - now Princess Alexandra of Denmark - born 30 June 1964 in Hong Kong. She is of British-Chinese-Austrian descent and until the couple's engagement on 31 May 1995 she was Deputy Director of an investment company in Hong Kong. The couple took up residence at Schackenborg in connection with their wedding. On 28 August 1999 the couple had a son, Prince Nikolai William Alexander Frederik.
