The LDCF was launched in 2001 to support adaptation to climate change in the Least Developed Countries. This website is hosted by the Danida Evaluation Department and presents not only the findings of the evaluation team, but gives a rare insight into the evaluation team at work. Stakeholder views on the LDCF evaluation: Stakeholder views on the LDCF in general: Follow the evaluation team: In Bonn In Bangladesh	Special focus on: Bangladesh See video clips with climate change victims in Bangladesh > Mali Malawi Sudan Vanuatu	Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) The LDCF was established in 2001 as one of the climate change adaptation mechanisms under UNFCCC The LDCF is aimed at increasing the adaptive capacity and reducing the vulnerability of the LDCs to climate change through urgent climate adaptation interventions. The LDCF is managed by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). GEF is also responsible for mobilizing resources to the LDCF Read about LDCF on GEF's website The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) The Global Environment Facility (GEF) was established after the 1992 Rio Earth Summit as a mechanism to raise additional funding for environmental purposes and to fund projects and programs that protect the global environment. Visit the GEF website Least Developed Countries (LDC) What is a Least Developed Country? Least Developed Countries are countries which according to the United Nations exhibit the lowest indicators of socioeconomic development. There are currently (January 2009) 49 LDC’s. 33 in Africa, 15 in Asia and 1 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are low-lying coastal countries that share similar sustainable development challenges, including small but growing populations, limited resources, remoteness, susceptibility to natural disasters, vulnerability to external shocks, excessive dependence on international trade, and fragile environments. There are currently (January 2009) 52 SIDS: • 23 Caribbean • 20 Pacific • 9 AIMS (Africa, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea) What are National Adaptation Plans of Action (NAPAs)? National Adaptation Plans of Action (NAPA) are being prepared in all LDCs to identify priority activities that address the urgent needs of the LDCs relating to adaptation to climate change.
