THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF DENMARK CERTIFIED FOR THE SUSTAINABLE ORGANIZATION OF COP 15
On 14 December 2009 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark was certified for the sustainable organization of COP15. It is the first time that a large international political summit was certified to be in accordance with an international standard for sustainable organisation.
The standard applied is BS8901 which is also used for the sustainable organisation of the London Olympic Games 2012.
The certification process was carried out by auditors from Danish Standard Certification during November and December 2009.
Minister Ulla Tørnæs: "I am very pleased that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark is among the first Ministries whose sustainable organisation of a large international political conference was certified. It is an important signal for all delegates but also for other organizers of large political meetings around the world."
The experiences gained from the sustainable organization of COP15 will be published in February 2010 including a Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol describing how COP15 was used to make the destination of Denmark and Copenhagen more sustainable.
